Media Students

 

BTEC LEVEL 2 IN CREATIVE MEDIA

This is a creative course for students in Key Stage 4. Students opting to follow this course will work through 7 units during the two-year course. There is no final exam; all coursework is assessed by the subject teachers and then an external moderator. The BTEC Level 2 in Creative Media is equivalent to 4 GCSEs. Students will achieve a pass, merit, distinction or distinction star.

During the two years of the course students follow this program of study

  1. Research for Creative Media
  2. Communication Techniques for Creative Media
  3. The Creative Media
  4. Media Audiences and Products
  5. Video Production
  6. Print Production
  7. Advertising Production
  8. Creative Media Production Project

The Post-16 choices that studying this subject will lead to are wide. You would be specifically prepared for study or work within the Creative Media Industry or to go on to study a specific area of Media Studies at A Level or Creative Media Production at BTEC Leve 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Creative Medial, but you could also go on to a wide range of other courses.

BTEC LEVEL 3 SUBSIDIARY DIPLOMA IN CREATIVE MEDIA

This is a creative course for students in Key Stage 5. Students opting to follow this course will work through 7 units during the two-year course. The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Creative Media is equivalent to 1 Alevel (if the 2 year course is completed). Students will achieve a pass, merit, distinction or distinction star.

  1. Pre-Production Techniques for the Creative Media Industries
  2. Communication Skills for Creative Media Production,
  3. Film and Video Editing Techniques
  4. Factual Programme Production Techniques for Television.
  5. Research Techniques for the Creative Media Industries
  6. Corporate and Promotional Programme
  7. Production Film Studies

AS/A2 MEDIA STUDIES

This is an exciting course for students in Key Stage 5. Students opting to follow this course will work through 6 units during the two-year course. There is an external exam in each year (one in January of the AS year and the other in the summer term of A2); all coursework is assessed by the subject teachers and then moderated external examiner.

During the two years of the course students follow this program of study

AS Year

Textual Analysis and Representation – analyzing TV Drama and forming representations, this leads to the Section A of the January examination.
Audience and Institutions – researching two major film companies Film4 and Working Title, this leads to Section B of the January examination.
Magazine Print Production portfolio, researching, planning, producing and evaluating a front cover, contents page and double page spread for both a new school magazine and a specific music genre magazine.

A2 Year

Film Promotion Package – research, plan, produce and evaluation a horror trailer, poster advertising the new film and a magazine front cover featuring the new film. This is the final portfolio for the subject.
Critical Perspectives – the critical evaluation of the major portfolio completed in Media Studies, this examination will take place in the summer term.
Collective Identity – How are Muslim females represented in the British Media since the 9/11 terrorist attacks?
A case study leading towards the examination in the summer term, focusing on TV, film and the internet.
